re-wear vibes

fancypants.001[similar dress] [fancy earrings] [fancy shoes] [fancy purse] [fancy ring] [chill bracelet] [chill bag] [chill birks]

So dilemma, you’re invited to a wedding and you want to look fab. You’ve had a baby less than a year ago and want jaws to drop. You are looking for a pastel shade. You don’t want to spend over 100 dollars. You guys. This was very complicated for me. I ordered and returned dresses which is completely out of character for me. I had such a hard time narrowing down the dress. I hated the thought of spending a lot of money on a dress I would either have to sell or because I’m lazy [and VarageSale terrified me] probably never wear again… So it was like well I love this dress, but re-wear is pretty much zero. Enter the dress above. It was on sale for 100$ even on Revolve, free shipping. Boom. Have you ever had that shopping moment where you have been struggling to even spend 30 bucks on something and then you see the bright shining unicorn you’ve been looking for all along and you just click add to cart and check out within seconds. Yeah, that was purchase. When it came in the mail, I almost cried of joy. It was the best possible outcome. It’s beautiful light fabric will work perfectly for a SoCal summer wedding paired with fab sandals, some statement jewels, and a diva clutch. And it will also rock as a day dress in the insane Florida heat with birks, chill jewels, and my favorite diaper bag of all times…

Basically, they all lived happily ever after. The end.

[Note: I’m looking to find this exact dress in stock. I didn’t think when I started this post 2 months ago that it would be sold out everywhere. I’ll keep you posted]

Move In – Must Haves

Lauren_new_home_essentials_V01_x2

I’ve moved a lot. Like, a lot – a lot. Over the past 10 years we’ve lived in 5 states and a whopping 8 houses!!! One thing I’ve got down pat is unpacking quickly and making a house feel like a home in record time. So I paired up with the good people over at Casper to talk about my 6 new home essentials to create a cozy space.

kyakilimsA rug instantly warms up a space. I love rugs, like majorly. Right now I’m having a real obsession with Turkish Kilim rugs and Kaya Kilims is one of my favorite sites.  LUSTING after this one above. They are well worth the money, but it’s not been in our budget so I am loving the selection and price point at RugsUSA, just picked up this one and loving it.

DIY-Modern-Wall-Hanging1Next thing, cover those walls!!! I’m really digging wall hangings and majorly love this DIY from Homey Oh My. Now, we will get to photos, but you also have to find fun art prints, mirrors, a letter board, some plaster antlers, etc to really helps to look eclectic and collected over time.
loomgoodsALL THE MUD CLOTH. Loom Goods gives me all the heart eyes. I can’t say enough. I want a house full of them. They are perfect for cozying up a sofa or bed, heck even a dining chair if that’s what you’re into. Oh and while we are at it, let’s talk pillow-pillows… yes, like sleeping pillows. How long have you been sleeping on your current pillow!? Are you embarrassed to tell me!? A move is the perfect time to update your pillow with a new one because hello!? It’s exhausting and a good night’s sleep is cray important.
family pics casperI’ve talked about this before, but print your damn pictures. Like lots and lots of them. Bare walls look depressing and bleh. Vary sizes, frame some with mats, frame some with no mats, print a canvas. The options go on and on!! I’m still printing out more pics from our family Holiday shoot with Mau Loa Photography. She’s brilliant. Gulf Coast peeps, hire her.
west elmNaked windows are shameful and I won’t stand for it. I hang white curtains on every damn window in my house. No window left behind. Always hang them higher than your actual window. I take mine nearly up to the ceiling, so that the fabric just ever so slightly rubs the ground. It makes the entire space look larger. These West Elm curtains are my faves.
mr. fiddleALL. THE. HOUSEPLANTS. I have a notoriously black thumb, but I’m doing my damnedest to keep my air pure and my plants alive. Mr. Fiddle is sadly having a moment after having to be repotted, but we are talking it out… so this image is from Room for Tuesday, check out this post for some great advice on houseplants.

Happy Moving folks!!!!

An Apple a Day

IMG_8460 IMG_8461 IMG_8462 IMG_8463 IMG_8464 IMG_8457 IMG_8458 IMG_8459We like to eat in our house… Like, a lot. We also are those hippie types that care about organic, non-gmo, plant based goodness. I’ve always been interested in healthy diets and as any parent can tell you, kids make everything difficult  complicated interesting. Healthy eating is no exception. You want your kiddo to eat the best food and learn to appreciate a variety of flavors from an early age… Not an easy task. We try to make as much of the boys baby food when they are first starting to eat, but life with a toddler and infant is crazy, so some days we run out or I’m totally unprepared. Shocking, I know. So there are times when Mama needs some help. Deciphering baby food labels is way too difficult these days, trying to read through the healthy buzzwords and figure out the best choice.

Enter Once Upon a Farm. I am such a fan of this company. Not all organic baby food is created equal. Every product is Certified Organic and Kosher, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Cold-Pressured. They never use any concentrates, pre-processed purees, juices or preservatives. This stuff tastes good. That’s right, I tried it and it’s yummy. I got a variety pack of applesauce and intended to feed them all to little man, but Rocco decided that he wanted ALL OF THEM. Kid is obsessed with applesauce these days, he started asking for his “refrigerator applesauce” instead of our pantry staple supply. R would devour them straight from the fridge, while Felix prefers them warmed up a bit. I just feel so much better knowing they don’t contain any weird additives to keep the safe for years in the stockroom or pantry.

We just signed up for a monthly subscription with a whole bunch of delicious sounding concoctions for the boys to try. I may have ordered the Chocolate Ever After for myself… That’s not weird, right!? I definitely suggest giving these a try!!!

Let’s Get a Move On

Soooooo you’re moving!?! That happens a lot in The Captain’s line of work and I’m finding that so many of my nearest and dearests are currently dealing with moves that are taking them West Coast to East, or vice versa. Packing up the house, the kids, the dogs… it’s stressful enough, packing up your wardrobe shouldn’t add to the headache.

My plan for a non-winter move is simple; basic layering pieces that can all be paired together or separately. They will work for a truck stop outside of Austin, a coffee break in Boulder, or a dinner in the windy city. You can add a piece or 4 to make this suit your particular route. You’ll also need undies and a set of pjs, but that’s about it. Pretty simple folks. You might even find yourself wearing these 15 pieces almost exclusively post-move.

Happy Moving!!!

Days of Future Past…

Dear college Lo,
Working and going to school is hard. I know it seems overwhelming. I know you get bummed out when you realize your only 2 days off from work are 12 hour days at school, but one day you are going to appreciate it, I swear. Living on your own is an amazing experience and worth it in almost every way. Soak up the independence.
But if I can offer some advice, stop buying crappy mall clothes and use that money to travel, go on oh-so-many adventures.

Save. You will be so happy you did. Even if it’s just 50 dollars a month, trust me on this. College loans are a bummer, but luckily there are companies out there, like Earnest, that can help you with refinancing your student loans! Any amount you have saved is going to help you in the long run! FOR. REALS.

Stop eating out all the time and for the love of God get a coffee maker. You work at a homegoods store, like come on?? Starbucks is not your friend.

Write more. You’re sort of good at it and it makes you really happy.

Live in the now. You’re always so worried about what’s coming next. Enjoy the moment. You have plenty of time to figure things out. So study and work hard, but say yes more to experiences.

Go outside more. Rock climb, hike. Hint, hint. Those will be things you will shockingly enjoy!

Definitely study abroad. Your Egypt trip will change your life and open your eyes in so many ways. Do it.

School stinks some days, but in 10 years you are going to be so thrilled and amazed that you finished. You worked hard and accomplished a goal all on your own. Your diploma was well earned.

You don’t know this now, but in a decade you’re going to have kids. 2 of them. I know?! Crazy. When you look at your 2 boys you are going to wish all kinds of amazing things for their future. You will hope that they have wonderful college experiences and know the importance of working hard and being responsible, independent men. You will hope to pass down the knowledge you have from your time in college, be proud of your story!

Xoxo

Your super old future self
