Despite the fact that it won’t be used for at least 3 or 4 months, decorating and finishing the nursery was important to me… Mostly because I knew it would never get done if we didn’t finish or mostly finish the room before Felix’s arrival. #FACT The desire to decorate decreases 2 billion percent once you are sleep deprived and covered in poo and breastmilk. So with a month or so to go, The Captain and I threw it into high gear and decorated the room from the comfort of our sofa whilest watching Justified [our latest tv obsession]. Excited to share some of my online finds with you.

[Sucre Dreamers] I found Hannah’s shop back when I first found out I was pregnant!! I was in LOVE with her sweet mobiles! This was the first piece I bought for the room after finding out we were having another boy. The custom colors were the jumping off point for the rest of the room. I love love love her AND her shop. I want felt garland ERRY WHERE!

[Bright Lab Lights] OBSESSED with these lights. I knew I was going to get these for the nursery the first time I ever laid eyes on them! With tons of colors to pick from, you can literally spend hours working out the perfect strand!!

[Aspen and Oak] Love Shelli and her adorbs shop! Had her whip up this custom “explore” banner a few weeks ago and I love it!!! I can’t wait to buy more goodies for the boys rooms!

[Watercolor Journey] We bought Baby Burrito a Rhino from the San Diego Zoo before moved and I absolutely HAD to use it in the room. I found this shop and fell in love the baby rhino print! I purchased a driftwood frame and had a stunning textured mat designed. Boom. Easy art work that looks custom and like a million bucks, all for about 55 dollars.

[Mini Learners] Adorable prints. Great Prices.

[Amy West Designs] [Oja Design] not pictured More great prints at killer prices.

I’m in love with this chill little room, I’m excited to see how the space evolves as Mister F grows and acquires toys and books, etc. He and Mohawk are gonna have major fun times in here!

In Bloom

After leaving San Diego, the land of perpetual summer, I’ve definitely been reintroduced to the part of the country that gets cold and rainy during the winter… I’m apparently a giant wuss because anything below 60 is absolutely frigid. #bigbaby So when I started talking to the fine folks at BloomNation about keeping things bright for the Winter I was inspired to tell you what we here at Blissful Happenings do to keep things happy and Spring-y all year long!!!

Color: I want BRIGHT colors. My flowers are generally a hue of hot pink, but bright yellows and oranges do the trick too!!! I think no matter what the season a pop of color is going to make you happy. It’s inevitable. White and red is fine, but a lovely happy purple is sure to make you feel like Spring is just around the corner.

Fun Vases: I am not the fan of a regular glass vase!! We actually prefer beer bottles to your traditional vases at our house! We also gravitate toward unique tumblers or shapes, generally items not intended to house flowers. I feel like fun items like that encourage you to get creative with your arrangements.

Multiples: A collection of similar vases [or beer bottles] grouped together to create interest. I think it’s visually interesting and almost looks like a flower field! They look so happy and fun. Not stuffy or serious. And when the weather is gloomy, happy and fun are exactly what you need!

And when it doubt, I have my favorite new vase from Oh Joy for Target reminding me, it’s OK, warmer weather will be here soon!! How do you do flowers in the winter? Share your tips in the comments below!!

In Pinning News…

So every few weeks I thought it would be fun to catch you up with my latest Pinterest obsessions because, as it turns out, I’m a superiorly talented pinner. I wish I could make it a job… Does that mean I should be an editor?! I think yes. Anywho, a few years ago I even won a Rachel Zoe Pinterest contest and besides my wedding day and the birth of my child, it’s my proudest moment. You think I’m joking. I’m not.  My handwritten note from Rach is most definitely framed on my dresser… No shame. She’s Bananas. BA- NAN- NAS. Moving on, here are my top pins from last week!

sloppy joes[I never actually had a sloppy joe when I was a kid. I mean, ew. But lately they sound delicious. I’m gonna share my own red lentil sliders recipe later this week.]

snickers[Vegan Snickers Ice Cream Bars, literally one of my favorite things in the world pre-veg!! Can’t wait to try these. The Minimalist Baker is my hero]grey jacket[This is my top repin of the past 2 weeks. I love the all white with the boxy gray coat. The black bag and nails are perf.]subway[I’m currently obsessed with moving and buying a house. A house, hopefully, full of subway tiles]

diy[How much fun is this!? I want to make one in a fun color to hang on the all white walls of my new imaginary home!!]

Flower Power

A flower crown is a must for any hippie in training! Just ask Pinterest!! Despite my lack of crafting skills I was able to, with the help from a friend, create an inexpensive and super cool flower crown quicker than you can say hippie-dippy-trippy-coachella-petchuli stink. Swearsies

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We started by wrapping 2 pieces of raffia wire together to our desired circumference. No idea if that’s what it’s actually called, but it looks like flower wire wrapped in raffia. You can find it in the silk flower section]

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We decided make the twists closer together because it looked cool. texture = good]

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We used wire cutters to keep the sharp edges from scratching.]

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We choose 2 different kinds of fake flowers, a main white one and then a smaller beige flower. We took off all of the leaves and some of the white flowers and added smaller beige petals to give it a little somethin’ special.]

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We wrapped the flowers around our frame.]

diy-flower crown-coachella- hippie -boho- bohemian[We kept adding stems until it was full and perfectly fairy-like!]

The finished product!!! For under 10 bucks, I think it’s the perfect accessory for a photo shoot, a wedding, or whatever hipster music festival you’re heading to next!!! Enjoy!!!

Gold Spray Paint Makes the World Go ‘Round

DIY-Coasters-prettyI have this friend, Emily, who thinks you can fix any unsightly home good with gold spray paint. And you know what? I can’t argue with that. Gold is the tits. I wanted a new coaster set because the picture coasters [you know you have at least one set hiding in your house] from my wedding weren’t quite meshing with my 2013 design sensibilities. Cue Em, “Spray paint that shit gold?” Okay, she didn’t say that at all, but it’s funnier that way. So she took my coaster holder thingy and sprayed it a matte gold. In my mind she keeps a secret locker full of gold spray paint so she’s always prepared just in case something needs a quick spraying. DIY-Paper-Coaster-GoldI removed the beer bottle labels that The Captain had lovingly removed from the picture inserts and added super cute scraps of paper I had in my paper box. Yes, yes. I have a paper box. I have a weakness for expensive and pretty paper. Such a weird obsession because honestly what do you do with a stack of pretty paper? Well I put it in my picture coasters. BOOM. 10 points to Gryffindor for using shit you already have in your house! I’m a virtual budget diy pioneer. Okay, I’m getting carried away. I shouldn’t have had that 2nd chai latte. Well here’s the finished product! Super easy, super cheap, and  looks tres chic.
