My Etsy Affair

So here’s the deal, I’m a shopaholic. That’s just the end of the story. I love to buy clothes… and purses… and shoes… and jewelry. Ahhhh jewelry. In recent years, I have really started to appreciate good jewelry and the importance of having really cool statement pieces, as well  as delicate jewels for everyday. I love having a necklace that keeps The Captain close to me, so for my birthday I requested a new necklace that would represent us to keep close to my boobs heart. I took to Etsy to see what was out there and fell in love with this bar necklace from Stephanie from Sea & Cake. Etsy is pretty much the best thing ever. I get so excited to find interesting and fresh new artists and creators!!! I am so happy with my purchase and just wanted to share it with my boos.

We got the beets…

photo 2I have a love affair with beets. I love them so very much. Now, until you’ve actually had a fresh roasted beet,  I don’t want to hear it. So go and buy the beets with the greens, so they are nice and fresh, chop off the tops and follow these directions here on how to roast them. They are super easy and literally taste like candy!!! Organic beets were on sale, so I had to make a big salad. For my birthday dinner, we dined at a fabulous Italian restaurant in Little Italy and while I super enjoyed my pasta, I found myself craving my healthy friend Chelsea’s delish salad, so I decided that I would have to make it myself. I had my beets, so I was halfway there. This salad is fresh and super satisfying.

Serves 1 hungry person or 2 sorta hungry people [I ATE the whole damn thing myself]

1 head of romaine lettuce, washed and chopped

1 cup of diced roasted beets, give or take, I could eat 3 pounds of beets…

handful of kalamata olives, sliced

1 cup of sugar snap peas, washed and trimmed

Kim Snyder’s Dharma’s Kale Salad dressing here

Whisk everything together and enjoy!! Next time I make this I’m going to put in a whole chopped avocado… You like where my head’s at!? I thought you might. Also, don’t be alarmed if you have fuchsia pea or purple poo after eating this salad. Beets aren’t joking. I could eat this every single day… Enjoy!!!

This is sort of a go to look for any day where you just can’t be bothered. Let’s be honest, even the fashionable get tired of being fashionable. Sometimes you just want to throw on Lululemon and flip flops and call it a day, but this look is just as comfy and looks super pulled together. A silky top and a leather jacket are always a good idea, so I paired them with my new comfy Genetic Denim jeans and a pair of nude flats and BAM! Insta-outfit. I’m also wearing my new favorite piece of jewelry! I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week!! After selecting my outfit, I realized that I had zero time to do my hair. So I went Game of Thrones chic and threw on a glittery headband and simply tucked my hair around the elastic. It is so easy and it is so cute. And bonus, when you take your hair out of the headband you have the most perfect beach curls! I got nothing…

I have no excuse, other than just being tired as all hell. The gloomy, gray weather here in San Diego has made me lazy, so very lazy. And by lazy, I mean crazy uninspired. I’ve also been preparing my house for a stream of out of town guests that begin next week and continue steadily until early March. Yes, the stress is palpable. I hate feeling uninspired so, in order to not put out half-assed posts, I am taking a week of rest and renewal to focus on real life– and figure skating.  But fear not, we will back very soon with some awesome posts!!! xoxo

If not now, when?

Getting older is important, it’s grounding. Other than perhaps having my 20 year old ass, I can think of no reason why I’d ever want to be in my 20’s again. Don’t get me wrong, they were an amazing time and hold so many brilliant memories for me, but I take what I’ve learned from them and head into my 30’s with my head held high and potentially full of botox– never say never! Here are some life lessons that I’ve learned in all my 30 years and 1 day of living. Enjoy.

  1. Toxic people GOTSTA GO aka I ain’t got time for that shit. As you get older, your true friends become truer and you realize that life is way shorter than you thought it was when you were a kid. Spend time with your true friends. The friends that always encourage you and make you laugh. Spend less time on the people that bring you nothing but drama and bad juju.
  2. Go for the gold. Screw you. Yes, I do love the Olympics. No shame, had I any skill whatsoever I’d be triple sow-cowin’ my ass off right now. Okay, back to the gold. Go for it. Go for your dreams. Yes, it’s cheesy. I don’t care. I’ve spent so much of my life scared to try for fear I’d fail. Who makes this idea that success can only be one thing? One way? I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I am excited to go for my dreams, knowing that my success does not define me, but my willingness to try does.
  3. Say yes to adventure. Along the same lines as the gold. I think when you greet each day with a prayer asking for a true adventure you are blessed beyond your wildest dreams. When you live each day open to the idea of possibility being around every corner you are truly living. It’s easy to stay in your bubble, it’s comfortable, but it’s rarely extraordinary. Some of my most amazing moments in this life were because I said yes, when I might have wanted to say no. Don’t settle for ordinary.
  4. Go outside and eat well. This one is simple. Go be outside in the glorious freaking earth we live in, we weren’t meant to stay inside and sit on our asses all day!! Take a walk, go on a hike, you will be amazed at how clear you feel! And you know my food philosophy and if you don’t you can read about it here. Be good to yourself and getting older won’t seem to matter much.
  5. Believe in something. I’m not trying to spark any religious debates. Suursisly, I don’t want none of it. I don’t care what you believe, but believe in something. I spent most of my life running from faith, but as an adult. A real life adult, I’ve come to find that being able to place my trust in something higher, believing that I was never alone, never forgotten helped me accomplish just about everything I just listed. I found peace with being me, just how I am.

So that’s my list, I could go on and on and on because I’m so freaking wise now. But I think you get it, hold your true friends close, work hard to follow your heart, don’t be scared of a little adventure, be good to yourself, and believe in something… I’m so blessed by all of the beautiful, unique people in my life and I’m so lucky to be married to my best friend who fills my heart with laughter. I’m pumped for 30, happy to face this next year with a confidence only acquired over time…. And now? Bed. Because I’m old and tired! [insert winky face]

My Besties

Blissful Happenings 2 - 08 Blissful Happenings 2 - 09 Blissful Happenings 2 - 10I’m a dog person, like way more than a people person and I, mostly, like people. My boys, Hammond and Franklin, are sort of the best dudes on the planet. They bark at everything, leave their toys everywhere, Ham is a food thief, and Frank is a seat stealer. Alas, I love them more than life itself. The Captain and I are concerned that if we ever decide to procreate that we won’t love the kid as much as the dogs. I hope that doesn’t make you judge us… Any who, this outfit has become my uniform as of late, easy and stylish. I never thought I’d fall prey to the baseball cap trend, but damn if it’s not so freaking cute and a great way to hide dirty hair. Speaking of hair, mine is growing!! Hooray. Okay, back to dogs. How cute are they!?!? Yes, I love them! Happy Wednesday!!!!!
